Description:

Outdoor Pathways at Southern Utah University connects students with hands-on, paid experiential learning opportunities through internship and workforce development programs. Our premier program, the Intergovernmental Internship Cooperative (IIC), connects students and recent graduates with paid, mentored, real-world internships through collaborations with federal, tribal, and regional partners. Outdoor Pathways supports applied learning, professional development, and career readiness while actively advancing Southern Utah University’s mission of student success, engaged learning, and meaningful community and regional partnerships. The department manages multiple grants, cooperative agreements, and student employment programs and operates in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment that emphasizes accountability, collaboration, and student impact.

The Accounting and Administrative Intern provides essential financial and administrative support to Outdoor Pathways and plays a key role in assisting Outdoor Pathway full-time staff with ensuring that all fiscal responsibilities, reporting requirements, and day-to-day administrative functions are completed accurately and in compliance with university and partner-agency standards.

Responsibilities:

  • Read, interpret, and organize financial data from multiple sources, including federal and state partner agencies and SUU’s financial system (Banner).
  • Assist with tracking budgets, expenditures, and financial documentation across multiple grants and agreements.
  • Support intern payroll tracking, hiring documentation, and financial reconciliation related to intern employment.
  • Assist with purchasing, procurement documentation, and management of office purchasing cards in accordance with university policies.
  • Perform routine administrative and clerical duties, including record keeping, document preparation, and internal coordination.
  • Provide administrative support for program operations, meetings, and special projects as needed.
  • Represent Outdoor Pathways professionally when interacting with students, faculty, university staff, and partner agencies.
  • Support events, partner worksite needs, or program functions as required.
  • Complete additional duties as assigned to support the effective financial and administrative operation of the program.

Qualifications:

  • Accounting, finance, or business major preferred.
  • Work study eligibility preferred.
  • Willingness to learn and take initiative.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office and Google Suite programs.
  • Proficient in Excel.
  • Experience with university financial software (Banner) a plus.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Comfortable talking to students, professors, and agency representatives in person, on the phone, and via email.
  • Willing to work in a flexible work environment.
